Spiral Wound Gaskets There are solid outer ring spiral wound gaskets consisting of a metal guide ring and sealing elements. The external ring accurately centers the gasket on the face flange: provides additional radial power to prevent the explosion gasket and acts as a compression stop. This profile is usually used in raised and flat faced flanged. The outer ring is often made of carbon steel (painted or zinc plated to prevent corrosion) but can be made of alloy for higher temperatures and more severe media applications.
